Churchill Downs Opens $90m Derby City Gaming Downtown in Kentucky

In a major development for Kentucky's gaming enthusiasts, Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) has officially inaugurated its latest addition to the Derby City Gaming (DCG) brand. The new venue, located in Downtown Kentucky, boasts a Kentucky Derby theme and features a remarkable array of 500 historical racing machines (HRMs) for visitors to enjoy. 

Beyond the gaming machines, the CDI venue offers a host of additional amenities to enhance visitors' experiences. Three food and beverage establishments provide dining options, while ample parking space for 130 vehicles ensures convenient access. The facility also features an impressive exterior 3D video board, adding to the overall entertainment value.

CDI's ambitious project has had a positive economic impact on the region. During the construction phase, it generated employment opportunities, creating 400 construction jobs. Furthermore, the venue has resulted in over 150 permanent jobs. Notably, more than $14 million of the investment was allocated to minority, women, and veteran-owned subcontracting services.

Bill Carstanjen, CEO of CDI, expressed pride in the project's multifaceted benefits. He highlighted how the DCG Downtown venue will invigorate downtown Louisville and contribute to the city's growth and culture. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear also commended the venture, emphasizing its alignment with the state's rich racing heritage. He underlined the significance of Churchill Downs in bringing people together from across the state and the world.

The opening of DCG Downtown coincides with Kentucky's recent legalization of online sports betting. The state introduced retail wagering on September 7, followed by online betting on September 27, as part of a phased rollout. Several prominent operators, including Bet365, BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel, and others, secured online licenses. Additionally, retail licenses were issued for various racetracks and satellite facilities across the state, further diversifying the gaming landscape in Kentucky.
