Mississippi Sports Betting Sees 11-Month High in November

Mississippi's sports betting landscape experienced a significant upturn in November, with players placing bets totaling $62.4 million, representing the highest monthly handle in nearly a year. This surge, while falling short of last year's figures, demonstrates a robust recovery in the Magnolia State's sports betting industry.

Comparing the November 2023 handle to October of the same year, there was an impressive 26.1% increase, indicating a positive shift in player engagement. However, when measured against the $73.6 million wagered in November 2022, there was a 15.2% decrease. Nevertheless, this resurgence in November is the most substantial betting activity since the $74.4 million recorded in December 2022.

Despite the strong handle, the revenue figures tell a different story. In November 2023, Mississippi's sports betting generated $3.1 million in revenue, a notable decrease of 33.3% from the previous year's $5.1 million. Furthermore, this figure was 53.4% lower than the $7.3 million earned in October.

Coastal casinos maintained their popularity as the preferred venue for sports betting in Mississippi, generating $1.4 million in revenue from a total of $43.1 million in bets during November. Central casinos contributed $1.1 million in revenue, processing $12.0 million in bets. Northern casinos reported revenue of $530,929 from $7.2 million in wagers.

Football emerged as the frontrunner among sports, with players betting $23.2 million at coastal casinos, $3.0 million at central venues, and $3.7 million at northern casinos. The love for football among Mississippi bettors continues to dominate the sports betting landscape.

The resurgence in Mississippi's sports betting scene in November brings renewed optimism for the industry, even as revenue figures lag behind. With a growing handle and an array of popular sports, the Magnolia State remains a prominent player in the world of sports betting.
