A Grand Casino Resort in the Works
The Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin has unveiled plans for a $360 million casino resort project in Kenosha, Wisconsin. In a strategic move, they are joining forces with the prestigious Hard Rock brand, owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida. This partnership is part of the tribe's efforts to gain support from local lawmakers.
Tribe's Resolution and Gaming Vision
The proposed 70,000-square-foot casino will feature an impressive array of 1,500 slot machines, 55 live dealer table games, and a dedicated sportsbook. Given that Wisconsin allows tribal sports betting, the Menominee Indian Tribe sees this project as an opportunity to secure a prosperous future.
Investing in Sustainability
The $360 million investment aligns with the tribe's vision of sustainability for their community. Joey Awonohopay, Chairman of the Menominee Kenosha Gaming Authority, emphasized their commitment to this project and the immediate plans for construction. Previous attempts to establish a casino were thwarted, but this time, the tribe is determined to succeed.
Challenges on the Horizon
Despite the substantial investment, hurdles remain. The tribe must convince Kenosha to sell 60 acres of city-owned land, a step toward expanding their sovereignty. Additionally, federal government approval is required. The tribe must also seek Class III permission to operate gambling activities, a process subject to the governor's approval.
A Promising Future
The Menominee Tribe is confident that their project will bring significant benefits to the city and state. As they move forward with their plans, they aim to raise awareness of the potential advantages this venture holds. The fate of the casino resort now rests in the hands of local authorities and the governor's decision.
