Prairie Flower Casino Expansion Progresses Despite Minor Setbacks

Prairie Flower Casino, nestled on tribal land in Carter Lake, Iowa, has been a go-to destination for gaming enthusiasts since its inception in 2018. Operated by the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska, the venue has continually reinvested in its facilities, aiming to enhance the overall experience for its patrons. In October 2022, the Ponca Tribe unveiled plans for a substantial 60,000-square-foot expansion of the casino.

This expansion promises to introduce 600 slot machines, along with video poker devices and electronic table games. Additionally, Prairie Flower Casino will offer a sportsbook with a pub, as well as additional dining and retail options. The expansion site is situated on the eastern side of the existing structure, providing ample space for growth.

Originally, the project was slated for completion in the summer; however, minor delays have pushed the timeline to possibly the end of this year or early 2025. These setbacks are attributed to supply chain issues, as explained by James Centers, a spokesperson for the Ponca Tribe. Nevertheless, Centers remains optimistic, stating, "If winter weather holds like it is right now, we could make up some ground."

James Centers further noted, "What we've seen with supply-chain issues since the pandemic, generally speaking, it's not terrible to be a few months behind."

The steel framework for the expansion is already in place, and the team is utilizing the time before winter to ensure the structure is set for a productive spring construction phase. If everything goes as planned, Prairie Flower Casino may welcome guests to its expanded venue by year-end, although any potential further delays were not addressed.
