In December, players in Iowa wagered a staggering $282.7 million, marking a remarkable 23.0% increase compared to the same period in 2022 when the figure stood at $229.9 million. Although it fell slightly short of November 2023's record of $289.7 million, the growth is still impressive.
Online Betting Dominates with $258.3 Million
The majority of player spending, $258.3 million, occurred in the online sports betting sector, emphasizing the growing popularity of digital platforms for wagering. Retail sportsbooks in Iowa also contributed with $24.4 million in wagers.
Revenue Skyrockets to $26.3 Million
December proved to be a highly lucrative month for the state, as the total revenue reached $26.3 million. This marked a significant increase of 28.9% compared to the previous year when revenue was at $20.4 million. Moreover, it was an astonishing 86.5% growth compared to November's revenue of $14.1 million.
Diamond Jo Dubuque and FanDuel Lead the Pack
When it comes to individual operators, Diamond Jo Dubuque and its partner FanDuel remained at the forefront in Iowa. Their revenue for December amounted to an impressive $7.2 million from a substantial $68.7 million in bets. Wild Rose in Jefferson and DraftKings secured the second position with $4.0 million in revenue and a handle of $43.3 million.
Year-to-Date Performance Highlights
For the entire six-month period leading up to December, the total handle was a remarkable $1.32 billion. During this period, the IRGC reported $112.7 million in revenue and $1.21 billion in player winnings. The state also collected $7.6 million in taxes during this time.
