Vermont's Legal Sports Betting Market Opens

On the stroke of midnight, January 11th, 2024, Vermont celebrated the launch of its legal sports betting market. The eagerly anticipated moment was confirmed by Governor Phil Scott and the Commissioner of the Department of Liquor and Lottery, Wendy Knight, who announced the launch date a month prior.

House Bill 127 Paves the Way

Last year in June, Governor Scott signed House Bill 127 into law, giving the green light to sports betting in Vermont. This legislation allows up to six online sportsbooks to operate within the state, with licensed operators required to pay a 20% tax on their adjusted gross sports betting revenue.

Top Operators Selected

Vermont has already approved three operators to offer mobile sports betting: DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics Sportsbook. These selections were made through a competitive bidding process. Commissioner Wendy Knight expressed her satisfaction, stating, "We are pleased to have selected three of the industry's top companies to offer Vermonters and visitors the opportunity to engage in mobile sports wagering in a fun and safe regulatory environment."

DraftKings Expands Its Reach

For DraftKings, the launch in Vermont marks its 26th market in the United States, expanding its presence further into the New England region. With the NFL playoffs approaching, Vermonters can now enjoy sports betting through the DraftKings Sportsbook app.

FanDuel Joins the Action

FanDuel, already established in the sports betting industry, now brings its offerings to Vermont, providing new customers with enticing bonus bets. The company had a prosperous 2023, with significant revenue growth in the United States.

Fanatics Sportsbook Disrupts

In addition to DraftKings and FanDuel, the Fanatics Sportsbook has also made its debut in Vermont. Fanatics, known for its innovation, aims to revolutionize the sports betting industry with user-friendly features and transparency in withdrawals. This launch marks the 10th state where Fanatics has entered the sports betting scene, following its acquisition of PointsBet US.

Vermont's entry into the legal sports betting arena promises exciting times ahead for sports enthusiasts and the industry as a whole.
