IGT Extends Supply Deal with UK National Lottery
International Game Technology (IGT), a leading technology company, has announced a significant extension of its supply contract with the UK National Lottery. This development comes as Allwyn, a new operator, is set to take over the reins of the National Lottery in February, marking the end of Camelot's long-standing tenure since 1994.
Continued Core Lottery Support
Under the extended agreement, IGT will continue to provide the essential lottery system for the UK National Lottery. This move is aligned with Allwyn's comprehensive transformation plan for the lottery as it prepares to assume control.
Jay Gendron, Chief Operations Officer for Global Lottery at IGT, expressed the company's satisfaction in supporting the National Lottery's operations. He stated, "We are pleased to continue to support the operation of the National Lottery, working alongside a range of other suppliers and Allwyn."
Legal Challenge Withdrawn
This extension follows IGT's recent withdrawal of its legal challenge against the decision to award Allwyn the National Lottery license. Initially, IGT had sought damages from Britain's Gambling Commission but faced setbacks in the legal process. The Court of Appeal ruled against IGT's legal standing for the claim, prompting the tech giant to abandon its pursuit of damages.
Camelot, the current lottery operator, also contemplated a legal challenge but dropped it in September 2022. This decision led to an agreement between Camelot and Allwyn to forego any claims for costs or damages.
Allwyn's Expanding Influence
Allwyn's influence in the lottery sector has been growing steadily, fueled by strategic acquisitions. In early 2023, Allwyn acquired Camelot UK, the current operator of the National Lottery, and rebranded it as Allwyn North America. These acquisitions have had a significant impact on Allwyn's financial results, with consolidated total revenue surging by 98% during Q3.
As the transition to Allwyn's leadership approaches, the UK National Lottery is poised for a new era with the continued support of IGT, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted gaming experience for millions of players.
