Nasir Hossain's Two-Year Ban

In a shocking development in the world of cricket, Bangladesh cricketer Nasir Hossain has been slapped with a two-year ban by the ICC. Hossain, who last represented Bangladesh in 2018, admitted to three corruption breaches. One of the charges against him was Article 2.4.3, for not disclosing a gift exceeding $750, which was a new iPhone 12.

The corruption charges against Hossain stem from his involvement with the Pune Devils franchise and their attempts to corrupt matches during the Abu Dhabi T10 Cricket League in 2021. Despite the thwarted efforts, Hossain and seven others now face the consequences.

Hossain's ban includes a suspension of six months, making him eligible to return to international cricket in April 2025.

Pune Devils Co-Owners and Staff Also Facing Punishments

The ICC hasn't only penalized Nasir Hossain. The Pune Devils franchise has come under scrutiny, with several coaching staff and co-owners facing charges related to corruption. Krishan Kumar Chaudhary, one of the co-owners, is accused of breaching Article 2.4.5 for failing to report corrupt activities and obstructing investigations.

Parag Sanghvi, another co-owner, is alleged to have placed bets on cricket matches (Article 2.2.1) and failed to cooperate with investigations (Article 2.4.6). Various coaching staff members, including batting coach Ashar Zaidi, team manager Shadab Ahamed, and assistant coach Sunny Dhillon, are also facing charges tied to corruption in cricket.

Marlon Samuels' Six-Year Ban

This isn't the first time that cricket has witnessed such bans. Marlon Samuels, a former West Indies star and two-time T20 World Cup winner, received a six-year ban from the ICC in November. Samuels was found guilty of four corruption offenses during the 2019 Abu Dhabi T10 Cricket League, where he was part of the Pune Devils (then known as the Karnataka Tuskers).

As a result of his ban, Samuels is prohibited from participating in any professional cricket events until 2029, marking a significant career setback for the former cricketing icon. This isn't the first time Samuels has faced such sanctions, as he was banned for two years in 2008 for previous corruption offenses.
