The End of an Era

After eight decades of horse racing excitement, Northville Downs, the last horse racing track in Michigan, is bidding farewell to its current location. The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has officially announced that the final race at the historic track, located at 301 S. Center St. in Northville, will take place on Saturday, February 3, 2024. This closure is part of a $250 million redevelopment plan for the racecourse.

A New Beginning on the Horizon

Northville Downs has purchased 128 acres of land in Plymouth Township, situated at the corner of Five Mile and Ridge roads. This land will be used to construct a state-of-the-art harness racing facility. However, the construction of the new facility is contingent upon approval from the township board, as stated by the MGCB.

Changes for Bettors

Starting from Monday, February 5, 2024, bettors will no longer be able to place simulcast wagers in person at the current Northville Downs location. Nevertheless, there's good news for horse racing enthusiasts, as the racetrack intends to reintroduce simulcast wagering at its new venue. February 10, 2024, will be the final day for patrons to cash out winning wagers at the current location. After this date, winning tickets can be mailed to Northville Downs at 47526 Clipper St., PO Box 701220, Plymouth, MI 48170, according to the MGCB.

A Message of Thanks

Henry Williams, the executive director at the MGCB, expressed gratitude to Northville Downs patrons for their support over the years. He stated, "We appreciate the support of those who have kept Northville Downs going for 80 years and look forward to the next chapter of horse racing in Michigan at a new location."

While Northville Downs prepares to transition to its new venue, horse racing fans can rest assured that they can continue placing wagers via their mobile devices without any interruptions. Various licensed providers in Michigan, including FanDuel Racing, Xpressbet, NYRA Bets, or Churchill Downs/Twin Spires, will still offer opportunities to bet on popular events like the Kentucky Derby.
