Danske Spil's Major Stake Sale
In a major industry development, Danske Licens Spil, a subsidiary of Danske Spil, has agreed to sell its controlling 60% ownership stake in the popular Swush fantasy sports platform to Danish tabloid newspaper Ekstra Bladet. The deal, while eagerly anticipated, keeps the purchase price confidential.
Swush.com's Diverse Offerings
Swush.com, the company behind Swush fantasy sports, is also the brains behind sports management games provider Holdet.dk. Co-founders Jesper Carstensen and Ole Christensen retain a 40% stake in Swush.com, aligning with Danske Spil's remaining 60% holding. Post-acquisition, Holdet.dk will maintain its independence under Ekstra Bladet, catering to its 200,000 users across Denmark.
A Bright Future Ahead
Jesper Carstensen, Swush.com's managing director, expressed his excitement about the merger, saying, "We look forward to working closely with Ekstra Bladet and Bold.dk to make sports more fun for even more sports fans."
Ekstra Bladet's commercial director, Signe Skarequist, also emphasized the synergy of the deal, stating, "The purchase of Holdet.dk is a clear underlining of our ambition to create strong digital media that delivers appealing and relevant content to a large audience."
Danske Spil's Success Story
Danske Spil celebrated over eight and a half years of success with its Swush ownership stake. Nikolas Lyhne-Knudsen, Dankse Spil CEO, commended Swush's achievements and expressed optimism about its future under Ekstra Bladet's ownership, noting the alignment with the company's strategic goals.
This sale comes on the heels of Dankse Spil's Q3 results, where Swush's revenue increased by 10.0% year-on-year to DKK11.0 million, showcasing the platform's growth potential and setting the stage for a new era in Danish fantasy sports.
