TheScore Founders to Exit Penn Interactive: Planned Leadership Transition
In a major development in the world of online gaming and sports media, Penn Entertainment has announced that the Levy family, the founders behind TheScore, will be leaving their positions within Penn Interactive in the upcoming weeks. This move is part of a meticulously planned leadership transition within the organization.
John Levy to Depart First
John Levy, one of the pioneering members of the Levy family, will be the first to step down from his role, expected to occur in mid-February. Following suit, Benjie, Aubrey, and Noah Levy will follow in April. Penn Entertainment's CEO and President, Jay Snowden, expressed his thoughts on this transition, stating, "The Levys are a family of successful entrepreneurs and are truly pioneers in the sports media and gaming industry. I am very proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish with them, including the development of an extremely deep and talented bench at Penn Interactive."
Seamless Transition Assured
With a focus on online gaming and sports media, Penn Entertainment has assured a seamless transition as it continues to grow its position as a leader in the industry. The company is currently in the final stages of the search for a new head of interactive, and further updates are expected shortly.
Notable Achievements Since Acquisition
Since Penn's acquisition of Score Media and Gaming (TheScore), there have been several notable achievements. These include the successful launch of TheScore Bet in Ontario and the migration to a proprietary technology stack. However, one of the standout accomplishments is the November 2023 launch of ESPN Bet, a result of a $1.5 billion partnership with Disney-owned ESPN.
A Rewarding Experience
Benjie Levy, Head of Penn Interactive since October 2021, expressed his gratitude, saying, "Working at Penn has been extremely rewarding," highlighting their focus on technology and team building. John Levy added, "Empowering fans with a seamlessly integrated media and betting experience has been core to our mission since day one."
The departure of TheScore founders marks the end of an era, while Penn Interactive continues its journey in the ever-evolving world of online gaming and sports media.
