Lithuania's Gambling Revenue Hits Record High
Lithuania's gambling industry experienced a remarkable year in 2023, as total revenue reached an astounding €222.2 million, surpassing the previous year's €195.8 million. The driving force behind this surge was the burgeoning online gambling market within the nation.
Online Gambling Takes Center Stage
Online gambling contributed substantially to Lithuania's record-breaking revenue, generating €148.4 million in 2023, marking a remarkable 22.0% year-on-year increase. In contrast, land-based gambling saw slightly lower revenue, totaling €73.8 million, which was 0.4% less than the previous year.
Online Slots Reign Supreme
Online slots emerged as the leading source of gambling revenue, accounting for a staggering €100.5 million in 2023, reflecting a remarkable 28.5% increase. Category A online slots brought in €97.1 million, while Category B games contributed €3.4 million to this exceptional figure.
Online Sports Betting and Table Games Thrive
Online sports betting revenue increased by 1.2% to €35.3 million in 2023, while internet table games revenue experienced a substantial 46.5% growth, reaching €12.6 million for the year.
Land-Based Sector Faces Challenges
In the land-based gambling sector, slots remained the primary revenue source in 2023, albeit with a slight dip of 0.9% to €46.3 million. Category B games brought in €31.3 million, while Category A slot machines generated €15.0 million, marking a 4.9% year-on-year increase. However, retail sports betting revenue saw an 8.1% decline to €9.1 million.
Lottery Revenue on the Rise
The lottery sector also witnessed significant growth, with gross gaming revenue in 2023 surging by 17.6% to €66.3 million, despite a 7.4% drop in ticket sales. Players won a total of €74.9 million from lottery games, while €67.0 million was collected in taxes, with €43.7 million coming from gambling operators and €23.3 million from big lottery organizers.
