North Carolina's Sports Betting Journey
In July 2019, North Carolina's tribal operators legalized retail sports betting, and in June of the following year, lawmakers gave the green light to online sports betting. The state is poised to kick off its online sports betting market in March, featuring eight prominent operators, including DraftKings, FanDuel, bet365, and Caesars Sportsbook, among others.
Catawba Two Kings Casino Joins the Race
Catawba Two Kings Casino, a premium gaming and betting destination in Kings Mountain, is among the venues looking to tap into the mobile sports betting action. Currently, there are only three locations offering retail sports betting in the state, with Catawba Two Kings Casino being one of them.
Partner Selection Process Underway
The casino is now in the process of choosing the right mobile betting partner. Once a partner is selected, Catawba Two Kings Casino will apply for a license with the North Carolina gambling regulator, the NC State Lottery Commission, to prepare for the launch of mobile betting. The selection process is expected to take a few months, according to Tylee Tracer-Anderson, Catawba Indian Nation's director of communications.
Expanding Legal Sports Betting
With 38 states and Washington, D.C. already offering some form of legal sports betting, North Carolina's foray into this industry reflects a nationwide trend. The growth of sports betting across the country began in 2018 following the US Supreme Court's decision to strike down PASPA (Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act).
