Anticipated Wagering Surge

The American Gaming Association (AGA) has released its findings on the forthcoming Super Bowl LVIII, predicting that a staggering $23.1 billion will be wagered by American adults, representing a substantial increase from last year's $16 billion. The surge is attributed to the expansion of legal sports betting across multiple states.

Diverse Wagering Trends

Based on a survey sample of 2,204 adults, the AGA estimates that 42.7 million American adults will engage in traditional sports betting methods, marking a 41% increase from 2023. Additionally, 36.5 million individuals plan to participate in casual betting activities, reflecting a 32% rise from the previous year.

Rise of Legal Sports Betting

An encouraging trend noted by the AGA is the growing preference for legal sports betting platforms. Approximately 28.7 million adults, constituting 11% of the adult population, intend to place bets through regulated US sportsbooks.

Emphasis on Player Protection

AGA's president, Bill Miller, underscores the importance of player protection amid heightened betting interest. With 75% of Super Bowl bettors acknowledging responsible gambling messages, the AGA remains committed to promoting responsible gambling practices.

Collaborative Initiatives

During Super Bowl week, Bill Miller will collaborate with former NFL professional Mark Ingram II to discuss the state of sports betting and advocate for safer gambling practices. This partnership aims to maintain the thrill of sports betting while ensuring responsible engagement.

Legalization Landscape

As sports betting becomes legal in more states, 38 currently, along with Washington DC, over 67% of American adults now have access to legal betting opportunities.
