Rhode Island Player Spend Takes a Hit

In December 2023, the total player spending in Rhode Island amounted to $47.9 million. This figure marked a significant 19.1% drop compared to December 2022. Online betting accounted for $39.1 million of this total, while retail sportsbooks contributed $8.8 million, with Twin River and Tiverton Casino recording $5.6 million and $3.3 million, respectively.

Revenue Shows Signs of Recovery

Despite the decline in player spending, Rhode Island's sports betting revenue showed signs of improvement. In December, the revenue reached $4.1 million, which was 33.9% less than the same month in 2022 but 20.6% higher than November's $3.4 million. Online betting generated the majority of the revenue, contributing $3.6 million, while retail wagering brought in $591,275. Twin River and Tiverton Casino posted revenues of $267,201 and $324,074, respectively.

H1 Handle Surpasses $220 Million

December marked the conclusion of the first half of Rhode Island's 2024 financial year. Over this six-month period, players wagered a total of $222.4 million on sports. Online sportsbooks accounted for $175.8 million of these bets, while retail venues contributed $46.5 million. Twin River processed $29.4 million in sports wagers, and Tiverton Casino recorded $17.1 million. In terms of revenue, the state accumulated $18.8 million in the first half, with $15.3 million coming from online betting and $3.6 million from retail betting, including $2.4 million from Twin River and $1.2 million from Tiverton Casino.
