The l'Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ) has taken a significant step in addressing the pressing issue of problem gambling, particularly concerning minors, in its recently revealed 2024-26 strategy. This comprehensive plan stems from consultations with various stakeholders and places utmost importance on protecting young individuals from the adverse effects of gambling.
Reducing Excessive Gambling:
The first pillar of ANJ's strategy aims to decrease the prevalence of excessive gambling within France's gambling market. ANJ recognizes this as a public health concern and commits to mitigating the problem.
Ensuring Transparency:
The second pillar is dedicated to maintaining transparency in the sector. ANJ seeks to ensure the integrity of the gambling industry and its operations.
Enhancing Economic Regulation:
The third pillar focuses on improving the economic aspect of gambling regulation in France.
Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin, the president of ANJ, emphasized that these objectives will be closely monitored over the next three years. The proactive approach to reducing excessive gambling and enhancing the protection of minors requires cooperation from all stakeholders, including gaming operators, public authorities, institutions, and associations.
Limiting Gambling Advertisements:
As part of the first pillar, ANJ plans to restrict gambling advertisements targeting the public, with a particular focus on vulnerable groups such as minors and individuals with gambling problems. Ethical advertising will be encouraged among operators and sponsors.
Combatting Illegal Gambling:
Under the second pillar, ANJ will take measures to combat illegal gambling. This includes addressing potential issues related to payment services, technology suppliers, and platforms involved in illegal gambling activities.
Supporting JONUM Games:
ANJ also intends to support developments in the games sector, specifically those related to games with monetizable digital objects (JONUM). Monitoring new trends and ensuring compliance with player protection measures are central to this effort.
ANJ's strategic roadmap is built on three core foundations: prioritizing scientific market knowledge and data, mobilizing stakeholders in France and Europe, and setting an example as a regulator committed to safeguarding the interests of minors and responsible gambling practices.
