Pennsylvania Smashes Gambling Revenue Records in 2023

The year 2023 proved to be a game-changer for Pennsylvania's gambling industry as it shattered all previous records. The state's total gambling revenue skyrocketed to $5.70 billion, marking an impressive 9.3% increase over the previous record set in 2022, which stood at $5.21 billion. This remarkable feat encompassed various revenue sources, including slot machines, table games, sports wagering, online gaming, video gaming terminals (VGTs), and fantasy contests.

Physical slot machines continued to dominate the revenue charts in Pennsylvania, with a 3.1% increase to $2.46 billion. However, land-based table games experienced a slight decline, dropping 1.9% to $971.7 million.

One of the most notable contributors to the record-breaking revenue was online gaming, which raked in an impressive $1.74 billion in 2023. This staggering figure exceeded the previous record set in 2022 by a whopping 27.7%. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) did not release a detailed breakdown of revenue by game type, but individual operators' data revealed Hollywood Casino at Penn National as the leader with $712.4 million in online gaming revenue. Valley Forge Casino Resort and Rivers Casino Philadelphia followed closely behind.

In the realm of sports betting, Pennsylvania achieved a record-breaking revenue of $458.6 million, surpassing the previous record set in 2022 by 14.3%. The total player spending on sports betting reached an impressive $7.68 billion, representing a 6.0% increase from the previous year.
