Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Online Gambling
In a recent operation led by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor), 12 people have been apprehended for their involvement in illegal online gambling. The arrests were carried out by the National Capital Region Police Office and the Anti-Cybercrime Group of the Philippine National Police following a raid in Parañaque City. The raid was part of Pagcor's broader efforts to combat illicit gambling activities within the country.
Focus on Tbb888.com
The investigation centered on the website Tbb888.com, which Pagcor identified as facilitating illegal online gambling operations. The site offered a variety of games, including slots, casino games, and esports betting, in violation of Philippine gambling regulations.
Seizure of Evidence
During the raid, law enforcement officials confiscated numerous electronic devices, including computers, mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and flash drives. These devices contained substantial evidence linking the suspects to illegal online gambling activities.
Legal Action and Commitment to Combatting Illegal Gambling
Pagcor emphasized its commitment to prosecuting those involved in illegal gambling. Cases against the arrested individuals will be filed before the Parañaque Regional Trial Court. Pagcor's senior vice-president for security and monitoring cluster, Raul Villanueva, reiterated the organization's dedication to eradicating all forms of illegal online gambling. He stressed the importance of collaboration with law enforcement agencies to achieve this goal.
Blocking Illegal Websites
Villanueva highlighted Pagcor's success in blocking illegal gambling websites, with approximately 80% of previously active sites now inaccessible. Despite these efforts, Pagcor continues to monitor and report illicit activities to protect consumers and ensure that gaming revenues benefit the government's programs.
Discrediting Privatization Rumors
The arrests follow Pagcor's recent dismissal of rumors regarding the privatization of its Casino Filipino branch in Angeles City. Pagcor chairman Alejandro Tengco refuted claims that the organization would spend funds on renovating the casino ahead of privatization, labeling such assertions as "disinformation."
