Arizona's sports betting scene continues to flourish as the state achieved yet another milestone in January, surpassing its previous revenue record. Operators in Arizona collectively generated an impressive $69.3 million in sports betting revenue during the month, marking a significant increase of 51.6% compared to the same period last year.
Online Dominance
The bulk of the revenue, amounting to $69.0 million, stemmed from online betting platforms, indicating a substantial preference for digital wagering among players. Retail sportsbooks contributed $230,662 to the total, while limited event wagering (LEW) operators added $146,204.
Handle and Gross Wagering Figures
Player engagement remained strong, with a total handle of $706.4 million recorded in January. This represents a notable increase of 19.5% compared to the previous year. Online gross event wagering accounted for the majority of the handle at $698.0 million, with retail betting reaching $6.3 million.
Adjusted Gross Revenue and Taxation
After accounting for free bets and promotional credits, the adjusted gross revenue for January stood at $46.2 million, demonstrating a substantial year-on-year growth of 59.3%. Taxation on sports betting activities amounted to $4.6 million, primarily derived from mobile betting platforms.
Market Leaders
FanDuel maintained its position as the leading online sports betting operator in Arizona, generating $31.2 million in gross revenue from $228.2 million in bets. DraftKings and partner Crown Gaming secured the second position with $22.5 million in revenue, despite a larger online handle of $258.1 million. In the retail market, DraftKings and Crown Gaming emerged as the top performers, while Turf Paradise led among LEW operators.
