KSA's Call for Sponsorship Details
The Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has initiated a request for information from online casino operators in the Netherlands regarding their commercial sponsorship agreements. This action comes in preparation for an impending national ban on such sponsorships.
Deadline for Disclosure
Operators have been instructed to furnish the details of their sponsorship contracts by March 29, 2024, as per a report by Casino Nieuws. These details encompass the inception dates, durations, and terms of the agreements.
Specifications for Sponsorship
The report highlights specific requirements for different types of sponsorships. For sports sponsorships, clarity is sought on whether the deal pertains to a team, stadium, or other entities. Additionally, the manner in which the sponsorship is showcased, such as through shirt branding or stadium displays, must be specified.
Media and Event Sponsorship Criteria
Media sponsorships necessitate disclosure of the media type and the extent of advertising exposure, including the number of broadcasts. Similarly, event sponsorships require identification of the sponsored event, its timing, and the nature of the advertisement.
Regulatory Concerns
KSA also inquires whether the contracts include provisions to safeguard against the targeting of vulnerable groups. This emphasizes the regulator's commitment to responsible gambling practices.
Remaining Advertising Legality
Although the Dutch government implemented a comprehensive ban on gambling advertising in July, exceptions still exist. These exceptions permit targeted advertising through select channels such as on-demand streaming services, social media, and online gaming platforms.
This move underscores the ongoing efforts to regulate the gambling industry while prioritizing consumer protection.
