ACMA Steps Up: Blocking Eight More Gambling Sites

Australia’s ongoing battle against illegal gambling has taken a new turn as the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has intensified its efforts. In its latest move, ACMA has identified and requested the blocking of eight additional websites for breaching the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.

 Identified Offenders

The sites named in ACMA's recent blocking orders include Lucky7even, 50 Crowns, Rockwin, Bitdreams, Mr Pacho, Casino Infinity, Zota Bet, and Spicyjackpots. ACMA has stated that each of these websites was found to be operating unlawfully, offering various forms of online gambling services prohibited by Australian law.

 Breaches and Consequences

Although ACMA did not specify the exact violations committed by these sites, it outlined the actions that warrant such blocking orders. These actions include providing unlicensed gambling services to Australian players, offering prohibited forms of online betting, or advertising unlicensed gambling services.

 Enforcement Measures

While ACMA lacks the authority to directly block these sites, it can request Australian internet service providers (ISPs) to implement the necessary blocks. Since November 2019, ACMA has successfully blocked 945 illegal gambling and affiliate websites, with an additional 221 services ceasing operations in Australia to comply with regulations.

 Consumer Awareness

ACMA has emphasized the importance of consumer vigilance, warning Australians that even seemingly legitimate gambling services may lack essential consumer protections. It urges consumers to verify the licensing status of wagering services through the ACMA register to ensure compliance with Australian laws.

Continued Vigilance

The recent blocking orders follow ACMA's previous actions against twelve other gambling websites just last month. These efforts demonstrate Australia's commitment to enforcing its gambling regulations and safeguarding consumers from the risks associated with illegal gambling activities.
