More than 100,000 people have used GambleAware's online self-assessment tool and nearly 30,000 have sought additional support in a short period of time.
Prevention Initiatives
GambleAware has implemented a number of prevention initiatives that focus on an online self-assessment tool. Launched in April 2023, the tool has helped more than 100,000 people better understand the impact gambling has on their lives and seek additional support.
Of the people who completed the self-assessment, around 28,000 contacted the National Gambling Helpline for help by phone or chat. This demonstrates the need for additional information and support from qualified consultants.
Increase in Calls for Help to the National Gambling Support Network (NGSN)
The number of people seeking treatment and support through the National Gambling Support Network has increased by 20%, highlighting the growing need for early support.
GambleAware's main campaign, Let's Open Up About Gambling, reached more than 30 million people and saw significant public response. This confirms that people are actively involved in reducing gambling and openly discussing the problem.
The Need for a Preventative Approach
Given the sheer size of the gambling industry in the UK, it is important to support a comprehensive, prevention-based approach to tackling the harms of gambling. This is especially true in anticipation of the government's announcement of a new system.
GambleAware has trained more than 8,000 professionals across industries to recognize and support people with gambling problems. This proves the organization’s desire to involve a wide range of specialists and the public in solving the problem of gambling.
