Dominican Republic introduces new rules for online gambling
The Dominican Republic has signed a new resolution that will provide a new regulatory regime for online gambling. Resolution 136-2024, issued on March 26, 2024, will bring significant changes to the online casino and sports betting industry.
Control and Supervision System
Under the new measures introduced by the Dirección de Casinos y Juegos de Azar (Casino and Gaming Authority), the Ministry of Finance of the Dominican Republic, a strict control and supervision mechanism will be created for online gambling.
In 2006, the Dominican Republic introduced the first law to regulate online gambling, but in practice only one company, Amaya, was granted a license. However, with the new resolution, the country hopes to create a more competitive environment and attract new participants.
Terms and Requirements
Resolution 136-2024 includes a number of important provisions, such as the cost of licenses, requirements for operators and measures to encourage responsible gaming.
Under the new rules, operators are required to provide measures to encourage responsible gaming, including a mandatory self-exclusion process and betting limits.
Licensing Process
Foreign operators will be required to register a company in the country and provide evidence of a criminal record and the origin of funds. They are also required to register a ".do" web domain for the Dominican Republic.
These new measures in the Dominican Republic aim to create a more transparent and controlled environment for online gambling, designed to protect the interests of players and increase government revenue.
